  • With eyes turned toward the East, looking toward Zion
  • Then our hope - the two-thousand-year-old hope - will not be lost
  • To be a free people in our land/ The land of Zion and Jerusalem.

Hatikvah. It means "the hope" in Hebrew. It represents the prayers of a people, the dreams of the diaspora. It is the anthem of Israel. It symbolizes the hope for a homeland full of harmony and free of violence. The goal of Hatikvah.com is to promote these ideals and to provide resources about Israel. We are currently developing the site, so please check back frequently for new content and features. Shalom!

A Brief History of Hatikvah: The words to Israel's national anthem were written in 1886 by Naphtali Herz Imber, an English poet originally from Bohemia. The melody was written by Samuel Cohen, an immigrant from Moldavia. Cohen based the melody on a musical theme found in Bedrich Smetana’s Moldau.
